The Miami Heat put up 86 opening half points versus the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat earned a crushing 146 to 114 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in their initial NBA game after player Terry Rozier was arrested for alleged illegal sports betting.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also detained in connection with a sweeping federal investigation into sports betting. Both men deny the allegations.

But, the Miami team were not distracted as they recorded 86 opening half points to be ahead of the Grizzlies by 39 after two quarters, the biggest halftime lead in the franchise's 37 year history.

Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and later stated Terry had the support of the team.

"We support him. Complete backing," Adebayo stated. "You support him through and through. He's like family at the end of the day."

Miami head coach Spoelstra commented: "Terry is a person who is important to all of us. He has made a real positive impact on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and support for him as he goes through the situation."

Portland additionally won their first game since the arrests, with Brazil-born Tiago Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and guiding the team to a convincing 139 to 119 win over the Golden State Warriors.

"Everyone experienced great experiences with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his family but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Arrests

Speaking about the detentions for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and supporters than the fairness of the game," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

Silver also mentioned an league probe into Rozier's actions in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he participated for the Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the betting companies," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were open about it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.

"So, we've been cooperating from that point. Naturally, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"Moreover 30 months later, he has not been found guilty of anything, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise here between protecting people's rights and investigating."
